When we were living in Buffalo, New York one of the church members asked if I would be a part time nanny for her little boy. I had such a great time with that little boy, he was such a good child. One of the things he loved was Sesame Street. When the time was up for being his nanny I was sad and I missed him. He was going to have a baby brother soon so his mom would be staying home with the new baby and him so there was no more need for me as their nanny. I made his baby brother an afghan for a present, but I wanted the little boy I nannied to know he was special too so I made him a Sesame Street quilt.
I had never made a quilt completely by myself before so this was an adventure that I really enjoyed figuring out.
I used muslin for the Sesame Street characters. The characters were embroidered by hand. Before embroidering I carefully traced each character by hand. I printed pictures from the internet onto white paper that I placed under the muslin. I could see the character well enough to trace it by hand with a pencil onto the fabric.
The colors that I choose were; country blue, white, cream and light blue. I choose these based on 2 things; 1) blue was one of the little boys favorite colors, 2) these colors would look nice in the house and his room.
After all the front of the quilt was sewn I placed the bottom part, batting, and top on the table where I could tie the quilt together. After it was all together than I machine quilted it.
I was fortunate enough to find Elmo in a basketball outfit with a basketball, because the little boy loved Elmo and basketball.
